"The team grade point average is determined by taking the individual unweighted GPA’s of varsity team members from last semester and then computing an overall average.
The NIAA considers this state academic championship award to certainly be equal to the athletic championship award. As the NIAA always stresses, the participants are students first, then athletes." -niaa.com

STARS Employee Recognition Program
Amy Hunsaker was selected as one of the Elko County School District’s May Staff and Teachers Achieving Results with Students (STARS) award recipients.
Susan Neal-STARS Committee Chair and Clayton Anderson-Superintendent of Schools came to present the award to Ms. H.
Ms. H was nominated by a person who wishes to remain anonymous. The letter they wrote nominating her is attached.
STARS (Staff and Teachers Achieving Results with Students) was designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate exceptional performance and commitment to the education of all students served by the district’s schools. While it is impossible to recognize every well-deserving employee, the intent of this program is to identify, select, and celebrate staff members who epitomize the image of a high-quality Elko County School District employee.
Ms. H is truly an outstanding choice for this recognition. Her unwavering dedication to WHS sets her apart and makes her truly deserving of this honor.

"Breakfast with the Notables"
Over the past few weeks, our 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students have dedicated themselves to in-depth research on a significant historical figure. This involved creating visually engaging boards about their chosen person and embodying the historical figure through costumes.
Parents, guardians, friends, and staff were invited to the school to have breakfast with the "Notables" and learn about their lives and accomplishments.

On Saturday, May 18, 2024, Alisa Safford and Lilia Prado, participated in the Great Basin College commencement ceremonies. Both Alisa and Lilia had officially completed their studies in December, but they were given the opportunity to join their fellow GBC graduates in the ceremony. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to both of them for this remarkable achievement! (also pictured: Lizzet Martinez alumna of WHS)
